ആദ്യം തെക്കൻ ചൈനാക്കടലിൽ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ച് തിരച്ചിൽ നടത്തിയെങ്കിലും ഒന്നും കണ്ടെത്താൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. പിന്നീട് വിമാനം തെക്കോട്ട് തിരിഞ്ഞിരുന്നുവെന്ന സൂചന ലഭിച്ചതിനെത്തുടർന്ന് തിരച്ചിൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ മഹാസമുദ്രത്തിലേക്ക് വ്യാപിപ്പിച്ചു. 2015 ജൂലായിൽ മഡഗാസ്കർ ദ്വീപിന് കിഴക്കായി വിമാനത്തിൻറേതെന്ന് സംശയിക്കുന്ന ചില അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങൾ കണ്ടെത്തിയെങ്കിലും അത് സ്ഥിരീകരിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.
2017 ജനുവരിയിൽ വിമാനം തകർന്നുവീണെന്ന് കരുതുന്ന പ്രദേശത്ത് നടത്തിയ തിരച്ചിൽ പരാജയപ്പെട്ടതോടെ ഓസ്ട്രേലിയ, മലേഷ്യ, ചൈന എന്നിവർ തിരച്ചിൽ അവസാനിപ്പിക്കുന്നതായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ 2018 ജനുവരിയിൽ വിമാനത്തിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നവരുടെ ബന്ധുക്കളുടെ സമ്മർദത്തെത്തുടർന്ന് യു.എസ്. സ്വകാര്യ കമ്പനിയായ ഓഷ്യൻ ഇൻഫിനിറ്റിയെ മലേഷ്യ തിരച്ചിൽ ദൗത്യം ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ 2018 മേയിൽ ഓഷ്യൻ ഇൻഫിനിറ്റിയും തിരച്ചിൽ അവസാനിപ്പിക്കുന്നതായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു.
ഇന്നും എംഎച്ച് 370 വിമാനം എവിടെയാണെന്ന് അറിയില്ല. ലോക വ്യോമയാന ചരിത്രത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ദുരൂഹതകളിൽ ഒന്നായി ഇത് തുടരുന്നു.
